I sent the new gerber files to Beko yesterday and today they rang and asked for handling holes to be added to the scrap space. This is the first I have heard that they need them, typical.

As I was adding them, Peter Baston asked if it was possible to re-do the gerbers at this late stage, as he had made another mod. to improve things. ie stability. by adding a crystal to the second COFDM. So of course, I am in a position to do so.

As I returned form a shopping expedition at lunchtime, Peter was just going out for his walk, and he asked if I would "sit on" the gerbers again, as he had a gfurther mod. for me. This I was glad to do, as it also gave him a chance to think and see if any more mods may be incorporated.

I had Deniz Mendi on the phone this morning asking for the extra holes and to clarify the position with regard to the digital displays. I reassured him that the ones I had included were from Tugrul and that I had been assured they were oin compatible with the part they want to use.

On Friday (aug 29th), there was much panic about the place - it seems that Peter Jarman is more in demand than even he thought. Apparently he got a phone call from Julie Austin to ask him to cancel his holiday. As the holiday had been booked since January, this was a non-starter.
The main cause for concern was the personal video recorder. We had five boards here and none were working. He came in on Saturday and spent the morning trying to get one or more up and running, but with no results. He sent emails to Peter Baston and myself to try to help Peter B. get it sorted while he was away.

On Monday (sep 1st) lunchtime, I was just vacating the building when I was called back by Ken and Hugh, to check to see if the interface between the processor and the COFDM was the correct way around, as the Thomson unit worked where ours didn't.
It turned out that Thonson used the serial interface while we were using the parallel. I checked the data sheets and concluded that ours was indeed wired correctly. This meant that the problem was most likely to be either a faulty component or software - not hardware as everyone outside the hardware department suspected. Typical - blame the hardware.

The problem of the LED displays is increasing. I have had an email from Tugrul asking if the artwork we sent on Friday had the new part fitted, but as I am unable to decypher the datasheet, the placement of the specified LED display will have to wait. The UK agent for the manufacturer is in Leigh, so I rang to try to get a speedier answer, but they can only supply information "in a couple of days" and samples "in a couple of weeks". Not a lot of use, so I emailed Deniz Mendi and put the ball in his court. So we will see what develops.
Well, I have been employed here at 4TV for a while now, and I feel it's time to start making a record of the happenings here. This will be an irregularly updated blog. I only intend to post when something of note happens.... Let's hope there's lots of juicy bits eh?
